Location, Location, Location
I am currently building a financial plan for a couple in their mid 60’s who want to retire in the next few years. They have enough of a nest egg and will get enough from Social Security to enjoy their retirement worry-free.
They are, however, still deciding where they want to live in retirement. That decision will have some far reaching consequences for their retirement, which is why we are discussing the following factors:
1. What is the cost of living in that area? 💰
2. Is there access to good healthcare? 🩺
3. Is that area safe? 🚨
4. What are the local amenities? 🛒
5. What is transportation like? 🚌
6. Does that area cater to your interests? ⛳
7. Are there any tax benefits? 💰
8. How will your assets be handled upon death? 🧾 Any state rules you should know about?
Financial planning isn’t just about the numbers. It’s about HOW you want to live your life.
